Garotas Suecas

Brazil's newest music export, Garotas Suecas (the "Swedish Girls") released their first full-lenght album distributed outside of Brazil. The groovy São Paulo band came together in 2005, and has received a lot of attention in Brazil and even more abroad.

Their music brings to the ears sounds from the psychedelic 60s and 70s in Brazil -- like the Mutantes, but with lyrics that make more sense. Banda Escaldante is a hodgepodge of psychedelia, rock, jazz and funk with a healthy dose of soul and even some samba. It also features great female vocals by keyboardist Irina Bertolucci. It's a mix of the regional and the universal and, best of all, it's a lot of fun. The songs are as tongue-in-cheek as the band's image.
