Reprehensible press

The latest issue of Xtra, our gay newspaper, brings a cover article that is basically a tutorial on prostitution, with encouraging testimony from bourgeois middle class people who dabbled part-time in sex trade because they had car payments to make or were bored and wanting to feel desired.

Meanwhile in NOW – Toronto’s alternative weekly magazine – a story about a recovering addict provides a blow-by-blow instructional sidebar on how to put together an improvised crack pipe in a pinch.

What's next? Five easy ways to dispose of a body? Or the greenest way to build your own Molotov cocktail? Last I checked, Toronto is still in the grip of a crack epidemic and prostitution is still not a very sound choice for part-time work or for boosting self-esteem.
